LONDRA PALACE HOTEL

Storia: Nel 1860, c'era un grande fermento a Venezia per l'inaugurazione di un nuovo albergo sulla Riva degli Schiavoni, a pochi passi da Piazza San Marco: il lussuoso cinque stelle Beau Rivage. Era stato disegnato dal famoso ingegnere veneziano dell'epoca, Fuin, in stile neo-lombardo con marmo bianco d'Istria. Sorgeva accanto all'Hôtel d'Angleterre et Pension, costruito sette anni prima dall'architetto Rossini.

Adiacenti l'un l'altro, i due Hôtel erano destinati a fondersi nel 1900 sotto il nome di Hôtel Londres et Beau Rivage, uniti più tardi da un corpo centrale che portava così a cento le finestre sulla Laguna. Eccezion fatta per gli anni del fascismo, l'Hôtel Londres et Beau Rivage, che diventa in quel periodo l'Albergo Bella Riva a causa dell'avversione per le parole straniere, mantiene il suo nome sino al 1973, per diventare infine l'attuale Hôtel Londra Palace.

Dicono le cronache che Gabriele D'Annunzio, in periodi di ristrettezze economiche, invece di scendere al vicino hôtel, si accontentasse dell'intimo ma pur sempre elegante Beau Rivage; così fece anche nell'autunno del 1894 per l'inaugurazione del monumento a Vittorio Emanuele II.

La stessa intimità ed eleganza, senza dimenticare la suggestiva vista sulla Laguna e l'isola di San Giorgio, accompagnate dal tipico spleen veneziano, ispirarono al compositore russo Ciajkovskij i primi tre movimenti della Quarta Sinfonia, che in un primo tempo chiamò "Do Leoni", in omaggio al leone di San Marco e a quello rampante inglese. Capolavoro che compose nella camera 106, come testimoniano le foto e i ricordi donati all'Hôtel dal governo russo. Stanza intrisa di storia e di emozioni che porta alcuni ospiti a raccontare di essere stati svegliati nel cuore della notte da una soffusa ed impercettibile musica: verità o finzione?

Nel marzo del 1999, l'Hôtel Londra Palace terminava con il restauro della facciata e di tutte le parti comuni, dalla lobby al ristorante, un progetto iniziato nel 1992 e costato otto milioni di dollari. La prima fase aveva visto trasformare le 73 unità in 53 camere, più confortevoli e tutte con bagni in marmo. Il sapiente restauro ha saputo mantenere intatte la storia, la personalità e l'architettura dell'Hôtel infondendogli però quella modernità fatta di luci e di contrasti tipica del Nuovo Millennio.


Le Camere: Cento sono le nostre finestre che si affacciano sulla Laguna: una vista incomparabile su tutto il bacino di San Marco e l'isola di San Giorgio.
Le 53 camere del nostro Boutique Hôtel sono spaziose e luminose, con autentico arredamento stile XIX secolo: mobilio Biedermeier, dipinti e tessuti originali.
Ogni camera è diversa dall'altra, per il colore delle sete e dei broccati, regalando in tal modo ad ognuno il piacere di un esclusivo ma discreto lusso.

Tre sono le tipologie delle nostre camere, tutte uguali per qualità e comfort: le Superior con vista sulla città; le Deluxe con vista sulla Laguna e l'isola di san Giorgio e per finire le Junior Suite, più spaziose, sempre con vista sul bacino di San Marco e sulla chiesa palladiana di San Giorgio.

Ad ognuno il piacere di sentirsi a casa propria.

Dove Siamo: Siamo a pochi passi da Piazza San Marco, lungo la passeggiata della Riva degli Schiavoni: in pieno centro città, con i suoi negozi di lusso, ii musei, le chiese, i palazzi e tutta la Venezia minore; di fronte alla fermata dei mezzi pubblici di San Zaccaria. Siamo facilmente raggiungibili dall'aeroporto Marco Polo, dalla stazione ferroviaria di Santa Lucia e dal Tronchetto o da Piazzale Roma per chi arrivasse in auto.

History: In the year 1860, there was great excitement in Venice for the opening of a new hotel on Riva degli Schiavoni, just a few steps from Piazza San Marco: the grand five star Beau Rivage. It had been designed by Fuin, a famous Venetian engineer of the period, in neo-lombard style with white marble from Istria. It was built next to Hôtel d'Angleterre et Pension, which had been built seven years before by an architect named Rossini.

One next to the other, the two Hôtels were predestined to become one in the year 1900 with a new name: Hôtel Londres et Beau Rivage, the two hôtels were latter connected by a central part that brought the number of the windows on the Lagoon to one hundred.During the years of fascism the name became Albergo Bella Riva (due to the dislike for foreign names). At the end of those years renamed again as Hôtel Londres & Beau Rivage until 1973, when eventually became the actual Hôtel Londra Palace.

A journal of the period wrote that Gabriele D'Annunzio, in times of dire straits, instead of going to a near Hôtel, used to be profoundly satisfied to go to the elegant Beau Rivage; and this is what he did in the autumn of 1894 for the inauguration of a monument dedicated to Vittorio Emanuele II. The same familiarity and elegance, without forgetting the evocative view on the Lagoon and on the island of San Giorgio, accompanied by the typical Venetian spleen, inspired the Russian composer Ciajkovskij the first three movements of his Fourth Symphony, which he first called "Do Leoni", in honour of the lion of San Marco and of the English rampart one. This was a masterpiece, which he composed in room 106, as the pictures and souvenirs left to the Hôtel by the Russian government witness. It is a room full of history and emotions emotions bringing some of our guests state that they were waken up in the middle of the night, by a weak light and a barely noticeable music. Could this be true or is it fantasy? .

In March 1999, the Hôtel Londra Palace finished being restored in its common parts and the facade, from the lobby to the restaurant, a project that began in 1992 and did cost eight million dollars. The first phase of the job was to turn the 73 rooms in 53, adding more comfort and putting marble in the bathrooms. The remarkable restoration left the hotel's history, personality and architecture integral, it granted to it a new modern look made of lights and those typical contrasts of the new millennium.

The 53 rooms of our Boutique Hôtel are spacious and luminous, having authentic furniture of XIXth century style: the Biedermeier, paintings and original materials.
Each room is different compared to another for colour of its silks and brocades, granting to each guest the pleasure of an exclusive yet tasteful sumptuousness.

We have three types of rooms, all identical in quality and comfort: The Superior rooms having a view on the city; the Deluxe rooms with a view on the lagoon and on the island of San Giorgio and last the Junior Suites, which are more spacious, with a view on the basin of San Marco and the Palladian church of San Giorgio.

Do Leoni Restaurant: The magnificence of the renewed Do Leoni restaurant is conjugated with a high standard cuisine, which is well known in the most rated guides, it proposes delicate and elaborated dishes.
All decorations are sophisticated, the care of all details, the shimmer of the illumination and delicate lights, create a welcoming and elegant atmosphere.

Location: We are just a few steps from Piazza San Marco, along the Riva degli Schiavoni walk: right in the heart of the city, with its luxury shops, museums, churches, palaces and all the minor Venice; in front of the public vaporetto stop at San Zaccaria. We may be easily reached from Marco Polo airport, the train station of Santa Lucia, and Tronchetto or Piazzale Roma for those who arrive by car.
