La Reception della Locanda è in via Fiorentini, arteria principale del Sasso Barisano.

Per caricare e scaricare bagagli, è possibile arrivare vicino alla Reception con l’auto.

Un secondo accesso all’albergo è da via San Rocco, a pochi passi dalla centralissima Piazza San Giovanni Battista e via San Biagio; una scalinata porta al livello superiore della Locanda.


Ubicazione: La Locanda di San Martino si trova nel cuore dei “Sassi” di Matera, a cento metri dal centro città.

Si sviluppa intorno alla Chiesa sconsacrata di San Martino e all’omonima via, attraverso una serie di balconate che godono di una delle più suggestive vedute del Sasso Barisano.


La struttura è dotata di 22 camere situate su quattro livelli, ristrutturate con la massima cura nel rispetto delle forme originarie di singole abitazioni.


Alloggi: Gli ospiti potranno assaporare l’esperienza di dormire nelle case-grotta che hanno mantenuto la stessa tipologia di migliaia di anni di fa; adattate, però, a tutti i comfort della vita moderna.

Tutte le camere sono dotate di bagno privato, aria climatizzata, televisione satellitare e la possibilità di collegarsi ad Internet.


Le camere, gli spazi comuni e i diversi livelli sono collegati da cunicoli scavati nella roccia, scalinate interne ed esterne ed un ascensore che raggiunge i primi tre livelli.

Abbiamo uno staff qualificato che può assistere professori universitari con lo sviluppo di itinerari per Matera e dintorni per discipline quali l’archeologia, l’architettura, l’antropologia, storia dell’arte, storia, e belle arti. I Seminari condotti presso la struttura della Locanda potranno essere abbinati con varie escursioni.

Inoltre, periodicamente la Locanda offre dei workshop residenziali per varie attività, come scrittura creative, yoga, canto e belle arti.

The Locanda’s Reception area is in via Fiorentini, the principal street at the bottom of the Sasso Barisano.

For loading and unloading, it is possible to arrive near the Reception area by car.

A second access to the hotel is from via San Rocco, directly off of Piazza San Giovanni Battista and via San Biagio in the very center of the city; a stairway leads down to the Locanda’s upper level.

The Locanda radiates outward from the deconsecrated church of San Martino and the street of the same name, through a series of balconies that enjoy a sunny exposition and a wonderful view of the Sasso Barisano.


There are twenty-two guest rooms situated on four levels, renovated with the greatest care in order to respect their original forms as single homes.

The Locanda di San Martino makes it a special point to welcome groups involved in academic and cultural tourism. We have qualified staff who can assist university professors with the development of itineraries in Matera and the surrounding area for the fields of archaeology, architecture, anthropology, art history, history and studio art. Seminars conducted on the Locanda’s premises can be combined with any of a number of fieldtrips.

The Locanda also offers periodic residential workshops for activities such as creative writing, yoga, singing and art.
